Chris Scala : Current Artist

Totemic Wireforms

Showing: February 5- March31, 2011

Chris, a Florida artist, creates works in both traditional mediums such as cast metals and marble, as well as utilizing industrial materials such as fabrics woven of copper and stainless steel. Together with marine scientist, Chris Olstad, he has developed a method of growing sculpture in the ocean using photovoltaics to extract minerals from sea water. In this process, the solar electric current provokes the accumulation of a coral material that resembles the shell generated by marine organisms and is hard enough to polish. He graduated from the Hamilton Holt School at Rollins College and later studied in Italy, the U.K. and throughout the United States. His artwork is represented in private collections throughout the U.S. and Europe and in institutional and public venues including a national monument at the United States Air Force Museum at Wright Patterson.
